Kiltimagh is known for a number of distinctive sculptures throughout the town and the excitement of the upcoming All Ireland GAA match has proven too infectious to resist adornment! Over the last few days, the sculptures have been sporting some very stylish knitwear in the red and green of Mayo, nicely coinciding with slightly cooler temperatures as well. Gotta love slightly eccentric small town Ireland!
I have my suspicions that a prolific local knitter may be behind their new sharp threads (yarns?) but I won’t name any names!
Our newest sculpture, of the poet Anthony Raftery created by local artist Sally McKenna (www.sallymckenna.com) also received a cozy hat and scarf combo.
Update! Since I wrote the original post, some scumbag stole the hat and scarf off the Raftery statue. Never fear though, an intrepid citizen has replaced them with new and improved knitware, along with the addition of some groovy shades and leg warmer style wrapping of his walking stick and part of the tree, in case, you know, it gets extra cold! Fair play to ye, as they say ’round these parts!
